The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB, the new electric star
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB is a new model developed to offer an alternative to the GLB, the Stuttgart-based automaker’s other subcompact sport utility vehicle. Therefore, it’s not simply an electrified version of the latter, but rather a bona fide development in its own right, propelling Mercedes to the forefront of the deluxe electric SUV category.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB: loyal to the lineup
As part of the Electric Quotient (or intelligent electric mobility) series that came on the market in 2019, the EQB avails of a fluid esthetic, focused on aerodynamics. With optimized wheels, a streamlined grille and active cooling airflow management, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB also boasts a very low drag coefficient (0.28).
In all likelihood, this fully electric, seven-seat all-terrain vehicle will initially be available on the Canadian market with only one powertrain, i.e. the 350 4MATIC AWD version producing 288 horsepower or 215 kW. The combined torque from the two electric motors—an asynchronous motor at the front and a permanently excited synchronous motor at the rear—is commensurate (384 lbf·ft), enabling surprisingly responsive acceleration for a vehicle weighing more than 2,000 kilos.
It only takes 7 to 8 hours to recharge the 69.7 kWh lithium-ion battery from 0 to 100 percent, while in supercharge mode, it only takes about 30 minutes to bring it up from 10 to 80 percent. The estimated range is 380 km, subject to road conditions. Incidentally, the vehicle’s kinetic energy recovery is very good, thanks to a three-level automatic or manual mode. What’s more, the ECO Assist system takes GPS data and information from the driver assist features into account in order to optimize recovery and inform the driver of possible ways to minimize energy consumption.
Guaranteed charm
On the inside, everything is luxurious, modern and refined. You can personalize the cabin of your 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB in terms of lighting ambience (64 different colors) and with the selection of such options as fine-filter dual-zone climate control, an intuitive MBUX infotainment system with voice, touch and steering-wheel mounted controls, a panoramic sunroof and more. You’ll also avail of a full 1,710 liters of cargo volume in five-seat configuration (with the back row folded down).
